Castles of the Middle Ages is a collective name for structures that have five specific features. These include:

• the years of construction ranging from 500AD (end of Antiquity) to 1800AD (beginning of modern times).
• The material used which was predominantly wild stone.
• impregnability for siege and the possibility to view the panorama of an area.
• the geographical location – Europe and the Middle East.
• architecture which combines elements of defensive fortresses and peculiar aesthetics openly hinting at the wealth and power of the owner. Also, they were built near water bodies and in most cases on a natural landscape elevation – a hill or mountain.

Medieval castles only became classical by the 12th century when new trends in architecture appeared – romantic and Gothic.
